Theme section

The Video section embeds a video uploaded to Shopify, YouTube, or Vimeo. Customers can click to play longer videos with sound about your store and products.

For autoplaying background videos (without sound), see the Video hero, Grid, and Image with text sections.

Set up section

Add this section to any template (except Checkout) and use the drag-and-drop handles to re-order its position. You can add this section multiple times with different content and settings.

Editing a template changes all pages that use that template. To edit specific pages, you can create new templates or insert dynamic content with metafields

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

1. Select a Template to edit from the dropdown menu in the top bar.

   Learn how to use templates in our Templates guide.

2. Under Template, click (+) Add section and select Video.

3. Click and hold the drag-and-drop handles ⋮⋮ to re-order your sections.

Embed video link

The Video section embeds a video hosted by either Shopify or Youtube and Vimeo. If using Shopify, you can upload and select your video from the theme editor. For Youtube and Vimeo videos, copy the video URL into theme editor.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

1. Click on the Video section to open the video settings.

   
2. Choose a Video source: either Shopify or Youtube or Vimeo.

   For Shopify: click Select video and Upload video.

   For Youtube or Vimeo: copy and paste your video link into the Youtube or Vimeo URL field. Make sure you copy the full URL, including https:// at the start.

3. Click Save.

Change video style and layout

Once you've added your video, you can add a Cover image, adjust the shape (Aspect ratio), Focal point, Colors, and the Text alignment of the headings and button.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

1. Click on the Video section to open the video settings.

2. Add a Cover image for a preview image that overlays the video with a play button.

   We recommend using an image from the video. There are no required dimensions. A minimum pixel width of 2500px will ensure optimal quality on the widest screens. Image settings guide for more.

3. (Optional.) Choose whether to Loop video once the video has played to the end.

4. Select the Aspect ratio (shape) of your video.

5. Use Image focal points to specify the main focus of your images. The focal point of your image will remain centered and within frame when your site adapts to different screen sizes.

6. Select a Text alignment for the headings.

7. Change the Overlay color and Overlay opacity using the slider to increase the contrast between the text and image.

   These settings help make your text clear and readable.

8. (Optional.) Click the Overlay gradient option to add a color overlay that fades across a range of hues.

9. Click Save.

Change video play button

Customize the Play button text, layout and style.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

1. Click on the ("Watch now") Play button block to open the settings.

2. Change the Button text. The default text is "Watch now".

3. Select a Button Layout. Full display the button text and icon with a border around it. Minimal displays a single 'play button' icon.

4. Select a Button icon style: Dark, Light, or Outline.

5. Click Save.

Section headings

Add a section title and promotional text to overlay your Video. The section headings are included as blocks nested within the section. All 3 blocks include Size settings for the most flexibility.

Click on one of the text or heading blocks to find the size settings.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

1. Click on the Heading block to enter text for a title.

   we recommend a short title of just a few words.

   Change the Heading size to Small, Medium, or Large.

2. Click on the Text block for a short sentence below the heading.

   We recommend one or two short sentences that describe the video.

   Change the Text size to Small, Regular, or Large.

3. (Optional.) Click (+) Add block to add a Subheading.

   Change the Subheading size to Small, Medium, or Large.

4. (Optional.) Click and hold the drag handles ⋮⋮ to rearrange the blocks:

   

   Click Remove block in the block settings to delete a block.

   Click the Eye icon to hide or unhide a block.

5. Click Save.

Section style

Use the style settings to change the section Heading alignment and apply Contrast section colors. You can also choose whether to show section Animations.

STEPS

In your theme editor (Customize):

1. Click on the Video section to open the settings.

2. Select colors for the section Background, Text, Buttons, and Solid button text.

3. Choose to Enable animation to show visual effects when scrolling, hovering, or interacting with the section.

4. Select a Padding option to change the spacing between sections. Choose between Top and bottom, Top only, Bottom only, or set it to None.

5. Click Save.

Settings reference

Click the following blocks to find their settings. Click (+) Add block to add new blocks, and use the drag-and-drop handles ⋮⋮ to change their order.

Available blocks

Block	Description
Heading	Enter text to show a heading.
Subheading	Enter text to display below the heading.
Text	Enter multiple lines of text.
Play button	Customize the style of the video play button.

Click the Video section to find the following settings.

Video

Setting	Description
Video source	Choose to use either a Shopify video or Youtube or Vimeo embedded video.
Cover image	Select or upload an image to overlay the video. We recommend using an image from the video. There are no required dimensions. A minimum pixel width of 2500px will ensure optimal quality on the widest screens.
Loop video	Continue to play the video again after it has finished.
Media aspect ratio	Crop the shape of the video to Square, Landscape, or Portrait. Choose Natural to display the original image shape.
Media focal point	Specify the key area of your video. The focal point will remain centered and within frame when your site adapts to different screen sizes.
Text alignment	Position the text and headings to the Left, Right, or Center.
Mobile text alignment	Position the text and headings for mobile devices to the Left, Right, or Center.

Color and overlay

Setting	Description
Button	Select the color of the button background.
Overlay	Select a color to overlay the image. This option helps provide contrast with text and headings to keep them clear and readable.
Overlay text	Change the color of headings and text when an overlay color is applied.
Overlay gradient	Add a color overlay that fades across a range of hues. You can choose the style, angle, position, and opacity of the gradient. See Shopify's color gradient guide ↗ to learn more.
Overlay opacity	Use the slider to adjust the transparency of the overlay color. Set the opacity to 0% to turn off the overlay color. If set to 100%, the overlay will be opaque.

Section style

Setting	Description
Enable animation	Choose whether to display visual effects when scrolling, hovering, or interacting with the section. See the Animation guide to learn more.
Padding	Add a margin of space around the section to either the Top and bottom, Top only, Bottom only, or set it to None.
