How to capture better customer data to power your marketing

With personalization becoming less of a trend and more of a necessity when it comes to engaging with your customers, making sure you have the data to inform these decisions becomes vital. With that being said, Shopify doesn’t currently include a way to capture meaningful customer data from things like account registration and newsletters, which means you could be missing out on valuable interactions with your customers.

This is why we’re so excited to have partnered with the team at Helium to ensure our entire catalog of themes integrate seamlessly with their powerful Customer Fields app. This partnership means that when you install their app into one of our themes it will automatically apply your theme settings for colors and fonts so your forms instantly match the look and feel of your shop!

Account registration

The default registration includes very little information: first name, last name, email, and password. But what if you could supercharge this form with even more information as well as enable account approval, auto-tag customers, and receive email notifications when customers create or update their accounts?

Here are just a few benefits of using the Customer Fields app to improve this process:

  • Customer data is saved to Shopify metafields and usable in notification emails, customer account area, and more.
  • Require email verification or admin approval before an account is created
  • Create multiple, unique registration forms for different customer groups (e.g. wholesale and retail)
  • Let customers edit their own information (name, email, etc, or any custom fields)
  • Tons of options to customize and personalize the customer registration process

Email marketing

wned marketing is a hot topic right now, and should absolutely be implemented as part of your email marketing strategy. This app not only allows you to capture pertinent customer data, it also integrates seamlessly with the Omnisend platform (with more being added soon), allowing you to segment your customers and personalize your email marketing efforts.

Capture data such as the following:

  • Newsletter opt-ins
  • Birthdate capture (or any relevant date using date picker fields)
  • File upload (capture reseller permits, profile pictures and more).
  • Create multi-step forms, questionnaires or quizzes
  • Allow customers to edit their account details
